When Madison was 15 she noticed many painful lumps in her neck. After blood work, multiple x-rays, and a CT scan, doctors found enlarged lymph nodes down her neck and collar bone. Madison was diagnosed with Classic Hodgkin’s lymphoma Stage 2, Type A, in June 2016.
After her diagnosis, Madison underwent a surgery to place a port to prepare for further treatment. Madison started her first round of chemo one month after her diagnosis and then her life was consumed with doctor’s visits and hospital walls. Her hospital social worker, Cheralynn, recognized that Madison needed something to bring her joy and happiness after so much sickness and fear, and she referred her to Make-A-Wish Alabama.
After meeting with volunteer wish granters Justin and Christina, Madison chose her one true wish to be a family vacation to Hawaii! It has been a lifelong dream of hers to be able to see different beaches and explore all that Hawaii has to offer, including swimming with dolphins! Thanks to Make-A-Wish partner, Jeweler’s for Children, in July 2018, Madison and her family set off for an amazing, 7-day experience in Hawaii where they had an action-packed week filled with Sea Life Parks, ATV rides and even a submarine ride!
Jewelers for Children has renewed its commitment to Make-A-Wish and has donated $575,000 to grant 62 wishes across the country – wish experiences that have the potential to serve as a turning point in wish kids’ medical treatment helping them feel better, and in some cases, even get better.
