A longtime executive leader in the nonprofit realm has been named president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Alabama.
Tracy Bennett Smith will take the reins of the Make-A-Wish team, which serves the entire state with a staff of 12 and more than 250 volunteers.
Smith was most recently executive director of JDRF Alabama. She previously held executive leadership roles with Kid One Transport and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
“We are excited to welcome Tracy to our Make-A-Wish family,” said Kevin Almond, who chaired the CEO search committee. “Tracy is a talented, experienced nonprofit leader with a passion for our Make-A-Wish mission that is critical to driving our long-term goal of reaching every eligible child in Alabama.”
Smith has lived in Birmingham for almost 30 years and graduated from the University of Alabama Birmingham. She also has a background in business development, marketing, communications, financial management and strategic planning. The Birmingham Business Journal also named her a Woman to Watch in 2017.
“I've always been moved by the mission of Make-A-Wish and I'm excited to join the Make-A-Wish Alabama team," Smith said. "I'm looking forward to getting to know the staff, board, volunteers, supporters and families, and I'm eager to begin working with everyone on the mission of granting life-changing wishes for these precious children throughout Alabama.”
