Timing. Is. Everything.

When Khari was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2013, she was told she could wish for anything in the world.

She immediately knew what she wanted. Or, more appropriately, who she wanted.

Khari has always been the biggest fan of Mariah Carey. After she wished to meet the “We Belong Together” singer – the waiting game began. Details started to be sorted out for possible dates that Khari might be able to meet her favorite celebrity. As of late November, it was looking as though Khari’s wish wouldn’t be able to come true, due to scheduling conflicts, until the summer of 2015.

Then, the phone rang.

A few days before the Thanksgiving holiday, the national Make-A-Wish® celebrity team called the office of Make-A-Wish® Alabama with some incredible news: Mariah Carey wanted Khari to join her for Thanksgiving in California.

“It was pretty awesome,” Khari’s mother, Kristie, said. “Khari was really star struck and in shock. She leaned over and said ‘I’m just so nervous – I’m trying to remain calm’.”

Mariah not only sat down and had dinner with Khari, but she also took Khari on a private 20 minute tour of her home, took “selfies” with Khari when she asked and gave Khari an autographed gumball machine with three of her signature perfumes inside.

“Mariah was very welcoming,” Kristie said. “We were comfortable the entire time. It was very heartfelt and overwhelming with joy.”

“The pictures of Khari and Mariah Carey will instantly bring a tear to your eye and a warm, fuzzy feeling to your heart,” Make-A-Wish Alabama President and CEO, Pam Jones, said. “We appreciate Mariah and her team for making the day so special for Khari. It was more than a wish – it was a moment in time that Khari and her family will never forget.”

We were comfortable the entire time. It was very heartfelt and overwhelming with joy. ”
