Jachin, 14, of Roanoke, Alabama received his wish for an above ground pool on Wednesday, July 2. Jachin was diagnosed with Leukemia on June 6, 2011, but that has never stopped him from living a full life. He comes from a loving family, so when it came time for Jachin to decide on a wish, he wanted something they could all enjoy together: An above ground swimming pool.
Jachin’s mom, Erin, describes her son as her hero and deserving of this wish. Erin said, “Most people don’t get to meet their hero…I gave birth to mine.” Jachin said, “I wanted something for my whole family and something that would last a lifetime.” He wanted something that would create more than just memories now; he wanted to be able to create memories for a lifetime.
Blue Bunny Ice Cream, which is a national Make-A-Wish® partner and local sponsor, adopted Jachin’s wish and went above and beyond to truly make the entire experience a memorable one for him and his family. Blue Bunny District Manager, Mike Conrad, says the company’s statement is “When is a bowl of ice cream different? It’s when it grants a wish.” Blue Bunny gave to this cause and expected nothing in return, which is the magic of it all: when people team up and give to somebody that is going through an illness and deserves happiness and a smile on their face. “We granted a wish for a fine, outstanding young man,” said Mike. Blue Bunny also provided lots and lots of yummy ice cream treats for everyone who attended Jachin’s special day!
Make-A-Wish is in the business of granting wishes and bringing smiles to the faces of children. As with every wish…Jachin’s wish was unique. It is what Make-A-Wish Alabama takes pride in; Finding that one true, heartfelt wish that will give any wish kid a new, fresh outlook on life. During our first year in operation as a new chapter in 2013, Make-A-Wish Alabama granted 130 wishes. This year, Make-A-Wish Alabama is on course to grant at least 143 wishes.
